Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Manchester, San Diego

I was in San Diego for some business and spent a few nights at the Grand Hyatt Manchester, near downtown and the Gaslamp District. It was my first time at this Hyatt, and I was quite looking forward to it.

This review also feels kind of gratuitous (like the review of the Centurion Lounge @ DFW) because Lucky has also reviewed the same property. BUT – I have breakfast pictures! Take that!

I love hotel breakfast spreads. Nothing makes me happier than starting the day off with a feast. This hotel had one of the loveliest breakfast spreads I’ve ever seen. And the restaurant was airy, spacious, and cheerful.

I did not get into the Club Lounge because my company paid for the room, but breakfast was, fortunately, included (I am not a Hyatt Diamond member – yet).

I got to the hotel late on a Wednesday evening and checked in around 10pm.

The room

My room was in the Harbor Tower (the one on the left). I’m not sure if I was upgraded or not due to being Platinum with Hyatt, but the room was a good size and had two complimentary bottles of water.

I love Hyatt’s bedding, and this bed was very comfortable. The sheets were soft and the bed was a good level of firmness.

I had a lovely view of the harbor and marina below.

The hotel

The property itself is quite spacious and “feels” very big. I mean, it IS big, but it feels very open, which is nice. There’s a swimming pool, a few restaurants (I grabbed a good beer in the right tower’s restaurant), and a few services such as shipping, car rental, and a little shop for toiletries and souvenirs.

But the breakfast: WOW.

The spread is laid out over two rooms. They have:

  • Pastries
  • Lox
  • Waffles
  • Pancakes made to order
  • Egg dishes
  • Cereals
  • Oatmeal
  • Yogurts
  • Fresh fruits
  • Lots more little “this and that” breakfast items

I really liked how they made an effort to have different hot food options every day. This is great if you plan on spending a few days or more at this property. There are so many options anyway, and the ambiance is so nice in the restaurant.

If you walk right outside, there is a walking path that curves around the bay. I passed joggers, walkers, saw the ocean, and saw some bird friends. It was a very pleasant stroll after a big breakfast.

Overall

I would definitely stay at this Hyatt again if given the opportunity. San Diego has a ton of great hotels, so I might want to try one or two others, but I can see myself returning to this property.

It’s close to the airport (well, everything is close to SAN), peaceful, and the service was wonderful. Check out Lucky’s photos to see the pool and Club Lounge. It’s also across the street from a trolley stop, which could be cute. Very clean, modern, and welcoming, like most other Grand Hyatt locations.

I’m becoming quite the little Hyatt fanboy!
